Do It, pitch it, rock it!
Sixth ShipIt Day in Lingen (Ems), Germany
It was time for the sixth ShipIt Day in December: spotlights on, and the stage is open for your ideas!
Under the motto “Do it, pitch it, rock it!”, 55 colleagues from Lingen (Germany), Bogotá (Colombia), and Kelowna (Canada) gathered digitally and on the creative floor “Windmühle” to work creatively on 14 ideas for 27 hours. In doing so, they could work on pre-set challenges and questions they had developed.
Markus Brors (Chief Technology Officer) opened the event by reviewing past ShipIt Days and their results. Then, the participants set to work with their heads spinning to develop their ideas, find solutions, and develop prototypes. The creative ambiance of the “Windmühle” provided an authentic tinkering atmosphere, and the teams worked intensively on the chosen or set topics – from early till late. It was good that there were sweets, punch, and pizza for everyone in between. Of course, the teams were also able to exchange ideas with each other on this occasion.
The next day, everyone was in the final stretch to prepare for their big appearance on stage. With individual entrance music, one team after another could present a five-minute show act based on their idea and rock the stage. The good mood at the final pitches created a great atmosphere, and all teams received the applause they deserved. The final item on the agenda was the award ceremony, hosted by Marc Baumeister (Head of Innovation Center), to announce the symbolic winning teams.
This year, the winning team was “RoGPT”. Our colleague Tina Ulbrich explained the project: “We created an AI-controlled chatbot on publicly accessible ROSEN documents in our Intranet. We used a vector database and a large language model to do this. With good training data, e.g., work instructions and similar documents, we got some meaningful answers from our chatbot.”
Congratulations to all winning teams, and a big thank you to all the participants for their innovative spirit!
About the ShipIt Day
The ShipIt Day generates innovative ideas and approaches to problems arising in the course of ROSEN's day-to-day work. For 27 hours, colleagues can tinker, conceptualize, and design prototypes without limits. The result can be a prototype (hardware and/or software), a drawing, or a refined concept idea. The results are presented in a final presentation. Afterward, the audience decides who has been most convincing.
