Testing and Laboratory Service Capabilities
We provide testing solutions and laboratory services for our customers and business partners to support product development and integrity management. Whether it's ring testing, full-scale fatigue and burst testing, or product qualification (for example qualifying materials for hydrogen service) - we are dedicated to generating the empirical data that will help ensure integrity, doing our part for the future of the industry. With the ability to implement testing into integrity management activities, we are able to tailor our services for the industries we serve. Of course we also test our own products and services extensively to validate and verify them against technical specifications.

Gain insights into our integrity testing
We offer a wide range of routine and customized testing services, such as burst testing, to support you in maintaining full and uninterrupted production and to ensure operational safety of assets.
A combination of competencies
We deliver a wide range of routine and customized testing and laboratory services to a variety of industries.
Purpose-built test rigs enable life-cycle testing, e.g. vibration, tension, compression, bending, extreme temperatures, temperature cycles, internal pressure, external pressure, salt spray, and UV exposure.
Specialist facilities enable safe full scale large diameter pipe fatigue and bust testing, welding procedure development, and pipe ring testing.
Supporting laboratory capabilities include SEM, XRD, chemical analysis, metallography, tensile and hardness testing, abrasion, adhesion, peel and corrosion testing.
In service, assets must be reliable under high pressures. At our testing facilities, we can put samples, products and components under these pressures to simulate real-life conditions. Whether it be acceptance testing, test to failure, fatigue testing or evaluating the effect of pressure drops due to flow across components, we offer a professional service furnishing insights into the data.
As the energy industry has realized the huge potential of hydrogen as a viable alternative to fossil fuels, we dedicated a new laboratory to contribute to a safe and efficient infrastructure and assess material properties in hydrogen as part of a process of re-purposing existing pipelines for hydrogen transportation.
Our laboratory for H2-Ready Testing is fully equipped to complete critical tests including:
- Materials Testing of new pipe (according to ASME B31.12)
- Environmental fracture toughness testing
- Fatigue testing in gaseous hydrogen mixtures
- Exposure testing in gaseous hydrogen mixtures of metallic and non-metallic materials
- Tensile tests in hydrogen atmosphere
- Environmental slow strain rate testing
- Constant load/displacement K1H tests (according to ASME B31.12)
- Rising displacement J-R tests (according to CSA CHMC 1)
Ideally our clients deliver their samples for testing. However we have numerous test loops and pull test lines and over 6,000 individual pipe segments with varying diameter, wall thickness, and other features to simulate every possible situation.
Our operational testing division includes:
- A workshop for pipe preparation and configuration as well as non-destructive-testing and a non-destructive evaluation with a wide range of NDT equipment, for example for Ultrasonic Testing, 3D laser scan and X-Ray
- Area for TBIT testing and calibrations
- Reproduction of customer specific requirements for test spools and test plates and machining of typical defect types (e.g. by electrical discharge machining)
- Pull testing with the aid of a specifically developed pulling winch with up to 20 t of pulling force at a maximum speed of 7 m/s
- Pump testing thanks to 10 large pump test loops
- Test towers to test customized inspection solutions including launching and receiving tests of various inspection tools (also for vertical inspections) and the testing of self-propelled, robotic and tethered solutions
Our employees in development testing focus on testing various elements such as hardware and sensors, electronic components, systems (functional, stress, alpha) and software regarding the required functionality during the development phase. Our reliability tests include wear tests, pressure tests, vibration tests, environmental tests and root cause analysis.
Corrosion Testing
We test materials and products such as steels, stainless steels, metal products and alloys. We measure properties such as the susceptibility to intergranular attack and corrosion as well as salt spray corrosion tests, electrochemical tests, heat treatment and high-temperature oxidation tests of metals and metal products.
Metallurgical Testing
We perform the full range of metallographic sample preparation and analysis, including expert macroscopic and microscopic examination for grain size, banding, inclusions, microstructure, and surface treatment in accordance with ASTM, ISO and BS standards.
Mechanical Testing
We perform tensile strength and hardness testing to ASTM and BS standards of metals. This also includes abrasion, bond strength, accelerated weathering, thickness, holiday, adhesion, humidity, pull-off, salt spray, hardness and porosity testing of coatings and paints.
Chemical Testing
Chemical composition of carbon and low alloy steels, high alloy steels, nickel alloys, copper alloys, aluminum, and cast iron to ASTM A751, using spark OES, ICP OES, XRD and infrared absorption.
Testing while keeping track of requirements and standards
Our tests follow established standards where available and applicable. The standards are based on the respective applications:
Testing standards of materials testing
This addresses for example B31.12.
Testing standards of applications and services
Significant focus is related to the Standards of the American Petroleum Institute (API), ASME. Only recently, we aced the European tests based on API Q1 (Specification for Quality Management System Requirements for Manufacturing Organizations for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry) and API 1163 (In-line Inspection Systems Qualification Standard).
