In-Field Verification Services

Inspection verification for efficient decision making

An essential part of an effective pipeline integrity management plan is to verify the in-line inspection performance and the analysis process in the field. On-site inspection verification of the reported classification and dimensions confirms the condition of the pipeline to the operator.

As an industry leader in the importance and quantification of quality within field verifications, we provide a clear and traceable understanding of the level of service received to enable the least conservative approach to data collection and support efficient decision making.

External laser scanning and UT mapping of internal corrosion

Thanks to the widespread use of laser scanning in the industry, inspecting external metal losses has become a standard service. Mapping internal corrosion, however, still poses challenges due to the complexity of this technique and the possible subsurface morphologies. We offer both services in the form of encoded data to provide a clear picture of the extent of internal and external metal loss.

Your benefits:

  • Qualified and trained technicians with experience in validation of pipelines
  • API 1163 compliant through seamless integration of data
  • Robust procedures to ensure standardized delivery

Accurate sizing and classification of cracks with a tool box of NDT techniques

Accurate sizing and classification of cracks continues to present significant challenges to the pipeline and NDT industries. The most accurate measurements are made by inspectors who use appropriate technologies, have experience in sizing these features, and work according to robust procedures. Technology alone cannot currently overcome this challenge; rather, the combination of technology, expertise and experience is critical to the quality of the results. In addition to the regional regulatory requirements, our technicians are trained in house on real and synthetic defects to refine the skills required for the most accurate sizing.

Your benefits:

  • Inspectors trained on a library of real and synthetic defects
  • Robust procedures to ensure compliance
  • Inspection tolerance based on blind test data that is representative of the inspectors' actual performance

Laser scanning and application of data

Geometric anomalies include dents, wrinkles, geometric mill anomalies, gross deformations etc. Thanks to the widespread use of laser scanning in the industry, the inspection of geometric anomalies has become a standard service. However, the acquisition of useful laser data depends on the purpose of the application of this data, i.e. the subsequent process.

Your benefits:

  • Technicians trained in accordance with POF requirements for integrity awareness
  • In-house integrity support to advise on site complications
  • High-quality laser scan data

Multi-technological approach to confirm and quantify hard spots

The validation of hard spots is a rather new service for the pipeline industry. Initially introduced by US regulations, the service is likely to become more widespread with the conversion of conventional to hydrogen pipelines and thus the risk of hydrogen embrittlement at hard spots. At ROSEN, we use an advanced multi-technological approach based on our extensive industry experience to confirm and quantify the presence of hard spots.

Your benefits:

  • Availability of our "Magnetometer" tool to identify internal hard spots that are otherwise only accessible via this method
  • Significant industry experience with hard spots
  • Reliability of our method for identification and sizing of hard spots

Measurement of material hardness, composition and yield/tensile strength

Material testing is a critical component of any robust integrity management strategy to understand allowable stresses in the pipeline. During on-site verification, which is as a multi-technology and multi-discipline process, we measure material hardness, composition and yield/tensile strength. This gives us a detailed understanding of the material properties that affect the behavior of the pipeline under operating condition.

Your benefits:

  • Skilled field technicians, supported by industry recognized materials engineers
  • Cutting-edge technology
  • Integration with RoMat services to understand the characteristics of the entire pipeline population properties

Understanding and addressing the root cause of anomalies

Environmental data is often the missing element in understanding why an anomaly occurred. We can collect data in the ditch to fill in the gaps in understanding the integrity at that location and potentially address the root cause. In addition, we collect high-quality data to perform direct assessment methods when in-line inspection is not possible via the Integrity Framework.

Your benefits:

  • High-quality, repeatable field data
  • Highly skilled technicians with a POF recognized level of integrity awareness
  • Use of large standoff magnetometry for an improved understanding of DA
