Our global presence brings with it a global responsibility. We have earned a reputation for building partnerships with our customers and suppliers based on mutual trust and fairness. We are committed to acting ethically and legally at all times and to meeting the highest industry standards.

By compliance, we mean the legally and ethically impeccable behavior of our employees in their day-to-day business, because every employee influences the reputation of our company through their professional behavior. We do not tolerate any violations of laws, codes or internal regulations.

Our code of conduct

We are a company that is active globally. Our employees must abide by the laws that apply where they live and work.

This means, for example, that we respond to requests from governments and public authorities correctly and punctually. If inappropriate demands for gifts, monetary payments or other favors are made, this should be reported immediately to a superior.

Our code of conduct is often stricter than local national law. In such instances, our code of conduct always takes precedence over national law.

We protect human rights and promise to respect the social and cultural standards of the countries in which we do business.

We also promote cultural variety within our company and are opposed to any form of discrimination, whether in regard to age, sex, physical limitation, nationality, descent, skin color, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation or union membership. We do not tolerate sexual harassment or derogatory behavior.

We know that the range of perspectives in diverse teams where members interact in a respectful manner contributes to the success and innovative strength of our company. It is natural for us to treat all people equally. This means that no individual may be put at a disadvantage or be favored. We expect the same from our business partners.

To ensure our company can continue to grow successfully in the long term, we place a value on occupational health and safety. Preventing accidents and anything in the work environment that could lead to injury or negatively impact peoples' health is one of our top priorities.

All employees must abide by the applicable occupational health and safety regulations.

We take steps to ensure our business activities have the least possible impact on the environment and our natural resources. We work constantly to reduce emissions, avoid waste and wastewater, consume as little water as possible, and promote natural resource recovery.

We operate sustainably in regard to both economics and ecology. Our employees have a duty to adhere to all environmental and safety regulations that apply while performing work duties.

We do not restrict or circumvent the competition. We also expect our business partners to conduct their business in an ethically responsible manner in line with the rules of fair competition and applicable anti-trust laws.

For this reason, we avoid everything that could create the impression that we are acting in an anti-competitive manner or disregarding the conventions of the respective market. Most provisions of competition law prohibit agreements or arrangements between competitors regarding prices, price changes, discounts, sales, margins or customers. We abide by these laws.

We do not tolerate corruption or other unfair business practices. Transparency and openness are essential to uphold our credibility and retain the trust of our business partners.

Our employees should avoid situations in which their personal, individual interests could come into conflict with the interests of the company. The interests of the company are to be given due consideration – personal interests should never influence business decisions. Our decisions are always based on objective criteria regarding the quality of service, competitiveness of prices, reliability of partners and their orientation toward laws and regulations.

We operate in highly competitive markets. It is therefore imperative that internal affairs and trade secrets are kept just as secure as the rest of our company's business assets.

We maintain strict confidentiality regarding our intellectual property, trade secrets, nonpublic information and know-how. This applies particularly to information about prices, bids and the corresponding contracts.

We do not share confidential information with third parties.

Our corporate identity defines the foundation of our Integrated Management System (IMS), which combines Quality, Health & Safety, Environment and Information Security. Business success depends on our ability to continually improve the quality of our products and services, protecting our employees and preserving the environment. We are committed to:

Compliance with laws and regulations

Compliance plays a key role in protecting our employees and our company from unnecessary risks. Our compliance organization is headed by the Chief Compliance Officer, who reports directly to the CEO on a regular basis. Compliance violations can be reported to a central system set up worldwide, which is also accessible to the public. Alternatively, suspected cases can also be reported to the compliance functions in the respective country organizations. Each case is recorded group-wide according to uniform criteria and processed in accordance with uniform guidelines. Our compliance areas include antitrust law, anti-corruption, fraud/infidelity, fair play and conflicts of interest, human resources (HR), data protection and data security and other acts such as tax offences, betrayal of company and business secrets.

We prioritize to create long-term relationships with our suppliers as partnerships are vital to maintain the high quality of our products and services. This approach fosters the integration of social and ecological aspects throughout the supply chain. To achieve this, suppliers are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct and to ensure its enforcement.

In order to create a positive compliance culture in our company, we support all employees in acting with integrity in their professional activities and avoiding potential violations from the outset. We therefore regularly carry out group-wide, needs-based and target group-oriented training measures as well as extensive communication activities on relevant compliance issues and risks.
